First Bribie Cleanup Day!
6th May 2025
By Graham Wright

A big 'Thank You' to Niel van der Merwe for organising the first Bribie Island Cleanup Day for TLCC. Sadly, Niel was unable to attend the day due to illness, so it fell to our V.P. Jack Bosgraaf to manage the day. He didn't even have to put a traffic cone on his head, the duty being performed by Joanne Keillor.
We had a beach drive along the Bribie shoreline, accompanied by Darren from QWPS Turtle Conservation unit, who showed us nest sites, and told the tale of the Turtles Journey. We collected a load of rubbish which he took away in his ute.
After the cleanup, the choice was to spend a few hours sitting by the lagoon in peace and quiet, or go to the pub for lunch before driving home. We went to the Pub!
Hopefully, this will be a repeat event. We are also thinking about running it as a social day trip (with or without the rubbish collection) or an overnight camping trip on Bribie.
The biggest thank you goes out to those who came along, and hopefully enjoyed the day as much as we did!
